Ed & Kay Canty (2008)

2008 Community Partner Award Winner

Kay Frey, from Corning New York, and Ed Canty, from Buffalo NY, met while attending college in Buffalo.  They were married in August 1960 and moved to Schenectady in1968.  Through their 60+ year marriage they had nine children, all of whom attended the Schenectady public school system.  While Ed worked for the state of New York, Kay worked as a teacher in the Schenectady school system.  They both realized the value o fan education and the opportunities it provides to those who work diligently.  When their son, Michael, was tragically killed on September 11, 2001, Kay and Ed created a scholarship in his name at Schenectady High School.  For over twenty years now, the Michael Canty Scholarship continues to support recipients as they go on to further their education.
