Sullivan Alois (2009)
2009 Outstanding Graduate Award Winner
Sullivan Alois was born and raised in Schenectady, attended Schenectady City Schools, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Buffalo and Master of Education degree at the University of Albany.
Mr. Alois served in the U.S. Army from December of 1964 to December of 1966 and again from February 1968 to May 1969 and was discharged as a Captain. During his military career he received many awards and decorations including the Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal for Valor, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Combat Infantryman’s/Parachute Badges.
Alois served his community as a teacher for the Buffalo City School District and the Schenectady County City School District as a science teacher, retiring in 2010 as a high school principal. He also belonged to and participated in a multitude of organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 357 and his local Rotary Club, and he also enjoyed supporting and coordinating neighborhood clean-ups with his students.
