Colleen Keough (2024)
2024 Robert Ludwig Teacher of the Year
Colleen Keough is a second-grade teacher at Hamilton Elementary School. This is her 15th year teaching in Schenectady. She was hired in 2008 for a first-grade position at Paige Elementary School where she taught for three years. In 2011, she moved to Hamilton Elementary School where she has taught 4th grade and is currently teaching 2nd grade. She earned her bachelor’s degree in childhood education and psychology from Russell Sage College. She then went on to earn a Master’s degree in literacy from the University at Albany.
While teaching in Schenectady, Colleen has served and currently serves on many committees and volunteers her time for many extra-curricular activities such as serving as a Co-President of the Parent Teacher Organization and co-chairing the Yearbook Committee. She serves on the Anti-Racism Building Leadership Team, Safety Team, mentors teachers and serves as a Parents as Reading Partners member. She has developed School Improvement Plans with colleagues and several different administrators. She works with Reading is Fun volunteers as well as volunteers who come into her classroom with The Foster Grandparent Program. Colleen has attended several conferences and provided professional development to her colleagues. She has been a part of the Summer Enrichment Program since its inception in the district as well as teaching in the after-school programs and tutoring sessions for the children of Schenectady.
