Showcase: MVP Arena Performance by MLK Elementary School Chorus
Thanks to the grant funding provided by SCSDEF, the MLK Elementary School chorus had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the MVP Arena during a professional lacrosse game. This incredible experience not only showcased the students’ talents but also brought the school community together in a truly unforgettable way!
Standing on a professional stage with stage managers, sound checks, and advanced equipment, these young performers experienced the thrill of a real performance environment. Leading up to the event, these dedicated students worked tirelessly to perfect two harmonious pieces of music. They learned the significance of national anthems, developed the ability to sing acappella and with accompaniment, and practiced conducting themselves with grace and professionalism.
The evening wasn’t just about music. The performance was paired with a night of bonding for students, families, teachers, and administrators. Sharing this proud moment created deeper connections among the 25 families who joined us. Children and families were able to cheer each other on, enjoy the lacrosse game, and watch the lessons of teamwork and sportsmanship in action.
The event’s impact extended well beyond that evening. The students were inspired to learn more about national anthems and plan to perform anthems from other countries at future MLK events, including the school’s cultural International Night. Additionally, the experience of performing in front of a crowd of thousands boosted their confidence and left a lasting impression they will treasure for years to come.
This performance was about far more than just music. It gave students a real-world glimpse into the life of professional performers, taught them how to take on challenges with maturity, and allowed them to succeed under pressure. They learned about hard work, harmony, and the joy of seeing their efforts come to life in a powerful way.
At SCSDEF, we couldn’t be prouder to have supported this opportunity for the MLK Elementary chorus. The skills, memories, and sense of pride these students gained will continue to resonate throughout their lives.
