Showcase: PBIS/SEL Assembly Trophies

Funding from the SCSDEF has Yates Elementary School to provide customized trophies for the monthly Social and Emotional Learning (“SEL”) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) assemblies, recognizing the incredible efforts of our students and staff.

Both initiatives are district-wide. Social and Emotional Learning (“SEL”) is a process that helps individuals develop the skills to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is an evidence-based, tiered framework that schools use to improve student behavior, social-emotional learning, and academic success by focusing on prevention and positive reinforcement rather than punishment.

These trophies don’t just celebrate achievements; they inspire growth, commitment, and a sense of community throughout the school.

Funding provided by SCSDEF made it possible to design and produce customized, high-quality trophies to recognize class achievements in attendance and special areas. These awards align seamlessly with Yates Elementary’s PBIS program and overall commitment to school-wide goals.

These trophies do more than sit on a shelf. They symbolize a class’s hard work, dedication, and teamwork throughout the month. The winning class proudly displays their trophy in their classroom, creating a ripple of pride and excitement felt by everyone.

One of the standout impacts has been on attendance. With the trophy as a motivating prize, students are more eager than ever to come to school. Through collected data, we’ve seen meaningful improvements across the board.

Behavior in special area classes has also taken a noticeable turn for the better. The special area trophy has shifted the way students interact with their classmates and teachers, encouraging cooperation and mutual respect. Teachers have shared how the prospect of earning the trophy encourages students to consistently give their best effort.

The benefits don’t stop there. The trophies have become a powerful tool for building confidence and fostering a growth mindset. Students are learning that their hard work and teamwork can lead to success, lessons that will serve them long beyond their time at Yates Elementary.

Not only do the students and staff look forward to these celebrations, but families also tune in via livestream to join in the excitement. The customized trophies have added a new level of prestige to the awards, making each win even more meaningful. They’re sturdy, eye-catching, and designed to last, which is a big improvement over the previous awards that couldn’t hold up as well over time.
