2020 Robert Ludwig Teacher of the Year
Patty Wood is a reading specialist at Hamilton Elementary School. In her six years working at the elementary level, she has helped to implement various building-wide reading events such as author visits and book deliveries to classrooms and homes; as well as community building events such as lunch book clubs and talent shows.
She serves on several building committees such as the Anti-Racist Building Leadership Team, the PTO and the Reading Engagement Team. Patty also participates in district wide initiatives such as the Schenectady Reads Bookmobile, curriculum work, various literacy-based committees, and professional development.
Prior to working at Hamilton Elementary School, Patty taught Middle and High School, teaching Reading, English, Newspaper Workshop, and World Studies. Throughout her career, she has worked with students in every grade level K-12. She earned her master’s degree in Literacy at SUNY Albany and her bachelor’s degree in English Adolescent Education from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. She also attended Schenectady City Schools as a student.
