After earning a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Mrs. White taught first and second grade for over 13 years becoming a grade level leader serving teachers at 15 schools to make modifications to curriculum and use data to inform instruction.
Recognized by her colleagues for her dedication to the urban community she serves, Carrie was awarded the Top Teacher Award by the State Employees Federal Credit Union. Her knowledge of curriculum and creative strategies to engage all students led to her being awarded the NBC News Channel 13 highest award for educators.
Mrs. White’s pivot to virtual instruction led to an increase in student achievement, engagement and connections with families during the 2020-2021 school year. Her mastery of educational technology and her thorough knowledge of curriculum awarded her the Schenectady City School District teacher of the Year with a record number of letters of support for her nomination.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as the chair of her school's PBIS Program, a member of the Antiracist building leadership team as well as a mentor for new teachers. She has enhanced the resources of her school and district through successful grant writing and turnkey training.
She is purposeful in her planning and inspirational in her teaching. She believes that teachers must embrace change, encourage innovation, and foster creativity; not just in their students, but in themselves. Mrs. White says, “falling back on a comfortable teaching habit is not an option.”
