2023 Robert Ludwig Teacher of the Year
Marissa Ray is an English as a New Language (ENL) teacher at Central Park Middle School. This is her seventh year teaching in the Schenectady City School District. Prior to this, she was employed as an ELL tutor at Taconic High School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and a long-term ENL substitute teacher at Albany High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology at the University at Albany, where she went on to earn her master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
During her time in the district, she has been a part of many different extra-curricular activities including Anti-Racist Building Leadership Team (ARBLT), After-School Tutoring, Bulletin Boards, Cultural Night, Diversity Resource Group, Homework Club, Lunch Basketball Program, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Student Council, Sunshine Committee, and the 21st Century Program.
